Story
Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons stems from the prestigious partnership formed between the Rupert family of South Africa and Baron Benjamin de Rothschild, who joined forces in 1997 around a single goal; to produce a South African wine of world-class renown. The winery is not run by Hanneli Rupert-Koegelenberg, one of South Africa’s former leading Opera singer, and her husband, Hein Koegelenberg.
Tasting Notes
Pair the Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon with Wagner’s aria “O du, mein holder Abendstern” from Tannhäuser. This aria’s rich, lush melodies resonate with the wine’s bright ruby red color and fresh raspberry aromas. The aria’s deep, expressive quality complements the wine’s notes of plum blossoms, ripe figs, and cassis, while its elegant and harmonious character mirrors the fine-grained tannins and firm body of the wine. The profound emotional depth of the aria aligns beautifully with the wine’s melting texture and powerful finish, enhancing the overall tasting experience.
Food Pairing
Enjoy this dry red wine from South Africa with Parma ham or arugula salad with figs and raspberry reduction.
Wine Makers Note
This red wine from South Africa is a classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. This cuvée is the result of a consistent selection of the best grapes from the best vineyards. After harvesting by hand, the alcoholic fermentation thus also the malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. Then this red wine is aged for 16 months in used French barriques.
